This course should be mandatory for all employees of law enforcement correctional agencies. The course gives personnel the information they need to notice and understand graffiti and other obscure gang markings and tattoos. Myself and another officer from my agency attended the course together and have been able to put our new found knowledge to use as soon as we returned to Nashville. We have been able to immediately notice suspicious activity on our local ephedrine/psuedoephedrine logs. Store owners have been open and willing to assist us. Since attending the course we have already developed leads, and conducted surveillance and trash pulls on possible suspects.... Thank you for the great training. Using power from the actual vehicle & not damage the vehicle or the equipment. Braselton, GA Course Attended: T/CAP Class Date: 4/16 - 4/20 Message Sent: On Sunday April 22, 2007 my partner and I were working I-85 SB (MY partner is also a recent graduate of T/CAP). He conducted a traffic stop. The driver and passenger did not have their act together but did refuse consent. We don't currently have a K-9 unit however another agency was close by with their K-9 and a positive alert was given. After an extensive search, we located $30,000.00 in U.S. Currency. Thanks to the vast knowledge obtained during our time at RCTA we located the money. Thank you to all the staff and instructors. Cody Agency: Gadsden PD Course Attended: Raid Planning III Class Date: Aug 05-10, 2007 Message Sent: The portion of Phase III Raid Planning taught by Chief Long was probably the best portion of this course. The first portion delt with officers assaulted killed in the line of duty. The way that Chief Long presented the material and showed how the stats corresponded to our (southeastern) region was thought provoking. The information that I received from this portion far exceeded the information that I obtained from the LEOKA briefing that I attended earlier in the year. The remainder of Chief Long's course dealt with fighting in and around vehicles. The information that I obtained will be passed on to our rookies when I teach them their "traffic stop" course. If there is a Phase IV I highly recommend that Chief Long be given an entire 8 hours to present statistical information on LE officers assaulted killed and how it relates to our region. ____________________________________________________________________________ Sent By: Thomas Agency: North Little Rock Police Dept. Course Attended: Interview and Interrogation Class Date: August 6th -10th Message Sent: I recently attended RCTA for the first time for Interview and Interrogation. It was probably the best class I have taken since becoming a Detective. I have taken Reid and advance Reid Interrogations, and that class couldn’t hold a candle to this one! Detective Cliff Porter was the instructor. He kept me interested the entire time in fact, when he would give us breaks I was almost disappointed because the material was so good. I can definitely use these skills while conducting my investigations, and foresee my success rate to double. Thank you so much to RCTA's staff and instructors. It is truly a "TOP NOTCH" Facility. I learned ways to read my dog and ways to better communicate with my dog that I did not know prior to the course. As a result I have realized mistakes in the past and things that were errors on my part. I learned more effective search patterns for vehicles that will better expose the K9 to the scent if present. I recommend this class to any one who has a chance to attend. ____________________________________________________________________________ Sent By: Christopher Agency: Brooks County Sheriff\'s Office Course Attended: Covert Vehicle Installations Class Date: July 16 - 20, 2007 Message Sent: I attended the Covert Vehicle Installations course with little knowledge of the installation of surveillance equipment in undercover vehicles. I was well versed on how the systems worked but had never built or installed a covert system before. I had no idea about the amount of time and effort that went into installing one of these systems. Once I arrived at RCTA the tasks set out before us for graduating the course seemed daunting to say the least. However, with the expert instruction of the TSS staff, Wendell Sorrell and Darren Hall, I was able to accomplish all of the tasks laid out and assisted in the install of a covert system in an undercover vehicle. I was also able to build my own stand alone system, with the assistance of Wendell and Darren, for use at my department. With the knowledge gained I know that I will be able to install covert systems in the undercover vehicles owned by my department, and will be able to ensure more prosecutions for narcotics sales and take more drug dealers off the streets. I want to say a huge thanks to RCTA for making this training available to law enforcement and to TSS and Wendell Sorrell and Darren Hall for the expert instruction given. It was very helpful with DUI, as it focused mainly on signs and symptoms of a person under the influence of narcotics. Prior to this course the only training I had in regards to camera and audio installation was O.J.T.. Now I have a better understanding of the correct ways of setting up our vehicles for our buys/surveillance/.etc. The staff was excellent and the base, staff and facilities were top notch and comfortable. I know that most of the classes at RCTA are narcotics related, but the Interview and Interrogation course is a must for anyone who investigates any type of crime. Dr. Rhoads was an awesome instructor and I hope to put the techniques I learned from him to good use. Recently we had an individual who was getting checks from elderly neighbors and altering the checks to increase the amounts. When I brought this individual in for a talk, after applying what Dr. Rhodes taught, this individual broke down and confessed to their crimes. Thanks for the outstanding training. ____________________________________________________________________________ Sent By: Jim Agency: Garden City Police Course Attended: Intelligence Fundamentals for Law Enforcement Class Date: June 4-6 2007 Message Sent: Having a background in intelligence work prior to my law enforcement career, and coming from a progressive agency that utilizes the intelligence process, I did not enter the class with the expectation that I would leave with much helpful information. I was most assuredly mistaken. The processes and procedures taught in the class helped tweak an already effective intelligence program into a much more successful and efficient exercise. Applying the specific knowledge that I departed the class with has greatly assisted in the dismantling of a major criminal enterprise within my jurisdiction. Additionally, I was so impressed with the facility itself, the instructional staff, and the NG staff, that RCTA has now become the primary venue for training for my detectives, as our traditional, state and local facilities pale in comparison. David Agency: Chicago heights PD Course Attended: Advanced Concealed Compartments in Vehicles Class Date: 7-8 May 07 Message Sent: After 19 years as a police officer, 14 as a narc, I thought I new almost all the hiding places for narcotics. Well this course showed me that you can train a old dog new tricks. I was amazed at what I did not know and what I learned in two days. Great instructor, best seminar in years that I have attended. 1 week out of the class and my partner found several grams of heroin hidden in the plastic upper post on the driver’s side of the vehicle below the seat belt. We just pulled the plastic post apart and you guessed it,14 packets of heroin. With out the class, we would not have looked in that spot. I recommend that class to any one who knows it all, you will be humbled. Thanks dude. The experience gained during this training gave me the confidence to be able to shift gears mentally as the situations change, and they always do. I have been to approx 8 different courses over the years and I rate them all as superior. There were a couple that I did not have any interest in going to initially (such as survival Spanish) but after finishing the course, I truly realized at how close I had been to turning away from one of the best courses I've ever attended. RCTA is wonderful. They cut no corners and bring in the best of the best. Remember that you don't have to like the instructors’ personalities, but I ASSURE YOU that you will love their methods. I finished this course on a Friday and that night some fellow deputies and I worked a detail. From the training I received by Mick and the fellow trainers, a UPOM 2nd charge led to a UPOCS charge. I used the DAR 7 step process that we learned in training and the results were true to form. The eyes do not lie. I would highly recommend this course to everyone. For the past several months our jurisdiction has had a rash of vehicle thefts, on 03/11/07 a suspect was detained and I was called in to meet with him. After applying what I had learned in the course the suspect admitted to all four vehicle thefts and named his accessory IN LESS THAN AN HOUR. Although there is a lot of repetition the class is interesting enough to keep the student focused. This tool is very useful due to the amount of Hispanics in the US today. It also touches on the gangs such as the MS 13 and can be used in dealing with them.
