Basic Gang School

Meet The Instructors

Length: 3 days (24 hours)

Designed For: This course is designed for patrol officers and investigators who are exposed to motorcycle and street gangs.

Prerequisites: None.

Certification: This course is POST certified in the states of Mississippi and Georgia and accepted for certification in other states.

Description: This three-day course has been redesigned for the 2010 training calendar. We have expanded the Street Gangs training to two full days and included an extended segment on Prison Gangs and Correctional Institutions. The remaining day of training acquaints the student to Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, familiarizing them with the sub-culture. A focus is placed on law enforcement interaction with OMG’s during traffic stops and field interviews. Through an overview of most gangs, students will become familiar with this subculture and its relationship to the vast narcotics network as well as methods of gang enforcement.

Topics to be covered are:

The street gangs portion of training will include, but not limited to:

- Hate Gangs and Extremists: National Trends, Neo-Nazi Movement, Skinheads, Ku Klux Klan, Five Percent Nation of God’s and Earth’s, New Black Panther Party

- Asian Gangs: Different Asian Cultures, Asian Gang Trends, Asian Gang Crimes, Asian Gang Tattoos, Southeast Asian Gangs, Korean Gangs

- Gangs and Corrections: National Prison and Jail Trends, Cooperation between law enforcement and corrections, Gang member behavior inside custody, Difference between gang members and non-gang members in custody, Identifying Gang Members in custody, Gang Recruitment, The need for a gang database, Major prison based gangs, How to manage gangs in custody

- African-American Gangs: Gang Mentality, Local Gangs vs. National Gangs, Gang Histories, Chicago based gangs, Crips, Bloods

- Latino Gangs: Gang Cultures, Latino Gang Mentality, The Mexican Cartels and Zetas, Sureno Gangs, 18th Street, Netas, Latin Kings, MS-13

- Interviewing Gang Members and Officer Safety and Gang Members
The Outlaw Motorcycle Gang portion of training will include, but not be limited to:

- Understanding the “Big 4: The Hell’s Angels, The Outlaws, the Pagans and the Bandidos. With a knowledge of how these four major gangs are organized and operate, the student will have a basic knowledge of the OMG’s operating in their individual areas.

- Contemporary Issues, Colors, Road Stops and Interviews, Biker Women and Officer Safety
