Clandestine Laboratory Prosecutions
Length: 16 hours (2days)
Designed for: This course is designed for any and all prosecutors who are involved in the prosecution of Clandestine Laboratories and other drug investigations.
Prerequisites: Assigned to a Prosecutor's Office
Description: Designed to train prosecutors on the legal, technical and tactical issues involved in the investigation and prosecution of clandestine laboratory and other illegal drug cases.

Eight (8) hours will be devoted to the basics of clan lab terminology, equipment, chemical process/synthesis for methamphetamine, PCP, indoor marijuana grows and other illegal drug type cases to include the “Drugged Driver. The means by which lab operators attempt to conceal their activities from law enforcement will also be discussed. Included in this eight hour block, prosecutors will be exposed to the actual and simulated lab equipment, chemicals, containers and videos of various clan labs, and actually participate in an “extraction lab” of removing psuedoephedrine from over the counter cold medications. ( All participants will receive a power point presentation of the two (2) most prevalent synthesis of methamphetamine.)

Eight (8) hours will be devoted to instruction from an experienced prosecutor who has conducted and supervised clan lab trials in both state and federal courts. Prosecutors will receive sample search warrant affidavits, courtroom graphics, and case law citations, plus participate in the direct examination of a clan lab expert witness. Information will also be disseminated regarding the “Drug Endangered Children” program. All participants will receive information on the Federal combat meth act log books on pseudo sales, to include electronic data base monitoring and analysis of information.
CLE credit: Participants should check with their individual state's “Continuing Legal Education” (CLE) accreditation committee to determine CLE hours. RCTA will provide Class objectives, Instructor Biographies, and any other material required to satisfy individual state CLE requirements upon request.
