In order for your department to receive maximum benefit from this special program of instruction (POI) your participating officer(s) are strongly encouraged to report to the course with a vehicle which can be “wired” during the POI. This vehicle can be the one used for undercover drug buys; special investigations where the suspect(s) and undercover officer(s) will meet in the interior of the vehicle to “set-up” deliveries of drugs or other contraband, or unmarked police vehicles used in support of various other drug enforcement activities. RCTA/TSS students can also “wire” the rear interior “prisoner” compartment of marked patrol units: prisoner transport vans; or any other tactical, or special purpose motor vehicle i.e.; pick-up trucks; 18 wheeler tractor cabs and/or trailers; motorcycles, or off-road four wheel ATV's which might be used in support of future drug enforcement operations.
-
Not only will the attending officers learn how to actually perform “by doing” these special covert technical installations, but your department will also receive a completely “wired” vehicle of your choice which can be used indefinitely in future law enforcement operations. If two or more officers from the same department attend this program simultaneously, bringing one (1) vehicle per agency will be sufficient.
-
While this course is designed to teach your officers how to actually perform these covert technical vehicle installations, they are strongly encouraged to have a vehicle to “wire”. Your officers will also be permitted to install any department-owned equipment (i.e.; circuit board cameras; VCR's; audiocassette recorders; special IR illuminators or any other items) that they bring with them to the course. You should also bring equipment which you are not familiar with so you can be trained on how to use or repair it. All such equipment can be quickly and easily removed when it is not being actively used or when other investigations require it.
-
Most of the work will be outside so bring clothing which will allow work indoors/outdoors and possibly accompanying weather conditions, including rain, cold-weather or hot-weather .
-
Each student will receive a special vehicle installation tool kit, which is theirs to keep for performing future covert vehicle installations for you agency.
