Designed for: It has been designed to be especially useful for first responders and investigators. The first two and one-half days is an introduction to cyber crime and computer forensics. It provides detailed bag-and-tag information, plus an introduction to the basic concepts of cyber crime and computer forensics. The second two and one-half days is an introduction to the tools and techniques used by a digital forensics examiner. Plus provides laboratory exercises with hands on tasks.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course .
Certification: This course is POST certified in the states of Mississippi and Georgia and accepted for certification in other states.
Description: First 2 ½ days (18 hours) provides:
- Basic Introduction to cyber crime
- Basic Introduction to computers forensics
- Computer hardware and software overview
- What is and how to treat digital evidence
- The basics behind hard disk structure
- RAM slack, Disk slack, and File slack
- What is and how to create a forensically sound copy of digital evidence
- An overview of data recovery
- Detailed bag and tag instruction
- Special topic provided by the Mississippi Attorney General's Office
Second 2 ½ days (18 hours) provides:
- Windows file system basics
- Command line usage
- How to find and use freeware
- File identification based on file signatures
- The use of metadata in investigations
- How to reconstruct web browser history
- Password cracking methods
- How to trace emails
- Introduction to cell phone forensics
- Introduction to data hiding
