SEIZED COMPUTER TRAINING COURSE

Length: 4 days

Designed for: This course is designed for state and local investigators who specialize in counter narcotics and /or counter terrorism investigations. Specifically, investigators who conduct search warrants for financial records, including those on electronic media and actually seize these items.

Prerequisites: Students should have a sound working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows environment.

Certification: This course is POST certified in the states of Mississippi and Georgia and accepted for certification in other states.

Additional Student Information: Students at their option, may bring a laptop computer to class with them as long as it meets MINIMUM requirements of Windows XP with at least 512 Mb Ram and 10 Gb of free hard drive space. The student must have administrator permissions to load and modify software. An additional 10Gb Fat32 partition, is desirable but not necessary, to accommodate the imaging exercise.

Description: This course focuses on:

•  Fundamentals of investigative procedures in a computer environment

•  Providing a student with the ability to securely seize and retrieve computer evidence pursuant to the execution of search warrants

•  Testifying about the procedures used

•  Assisting the student in their efforts to ensure that the integrity of the records is safely maintained

•  Legal and evidentiary issues in securing and maintaining the custody and control of the seized computers

•  “hands on” exercises for the purpose of retrieving stored data through the usage of a software program known as “ILOOK”, which is specifically for usage by law enforcement personnel .
